To run HORTICOPIA® Professional over your network, you must purchase the optional Networking Module or the Networking Plus module.  The Networking Module enables you to install HORTICOPIA Professional on your local network server and use the software from other networked computers.  You can also install the software on a peer-to-peer network by choosing a single workstation to serve as your primary machine.  A primary version of the software is installed to your server or primary machine and a client version of the software is installed on each of your other networked computers.  The primary version of the software is the only installation that will require an authorization.  The Networking Module alone does not enable you to run the software on multiple computers at the same time.  This requires multiple licenses.

In order for a network configuration to function properly, certain sharing configurations need to be set. The clients need to have access to the main installation folder (named Horticopia by default) through a share name. Below is a list of access privileges that need to be set.

For version 3: All users including client computers must have...

  • Full access privileges to the folder in which Horticopia Pro.exe is located (typically C:\Horticopia\Professional on the server computer)
  • Read access to the picture libraries (typically C:\HortProfPix on the server computer)

For version 4: All users including client computers must have...

  • Full access to the Horticopia Data folder (see Where is the Horticopia Data folder located?)
  • Read/Execute access to the folder in which Horticopia Pro IV.exe is located (typically C:\Horticopia on the server computer)
  • Read access to the picture libraries (typically C:\HortProfPix on the server computer)
  • The clients must each be run only once as an administrator so that the program can write the path to the server computer in the registry

See How do I Configure the Sharing Settings? for more information

After authorization on your primary machine, you will be prompted to do a client configuration.  Please specify the complete UNC path that the client computers will be using to access the program.  The program will not allow you to click OK unless the path is a valid network or UNC path.
To run the software from a workstation, you will first need to run the client setup on the workstation.  This ensures that you have all the drivers that are needed for the software to operate.  After client setup completes, you should see a HORTICOPIA icon on your desktop and under the Start menu | Programs.  The first time you click on this icon, you will be prompted to locate the software on your server or primary machine.  This path must be exactly the same as the UNC path specified during the client configuration on the primary or server machine.
