SQL Connections with Windows XP Professional and Server 2003 Google
 

I. Determine if the SQL database server is running

Use the SQL Server 2005 Configuration Manager to determine if the SQL Server is running. How?

II. How are you running HORTICOPIA Professional?

You must run HORTICOPIA Professional from the same administrative privileges account you used to install HORTICOPIA Professional.

OR

You can add user accounts to the SQL Server groups to run from a different account

III. Reinitialize database settings

Using the HORTICOPIA Control Panel, reinitialize the database. How?

IV. Check communication with the SQL Server

Using the SQLCMD utility, check to see if communication can be established with the SQL Server 2005 on this computer. How?

V. Adding User Acounts in XP Professional and Server 2003

You should be in Administrator mode to modify user accounts and groups      

    1. On the Start menu, click on Run...
    2. In the text box after "Open:" enter compmgmt.mmc
    3. The Computer Management snap-in opens
    4. Expand Local Users and Groups
    5. Click on Groups

You should see (among others) two groups:

·         SQLServer2005MSFTEUser$ComputerName$HORTPROSQL

·         SQLServer2005MSSQLUser$ComputerName$HORTPROSQL

Open each of these two groups by double-clicking on them and then use the Add button to add the user accounts that will be running HORTICOPIA Professional. Alternatively, you can make sure the Guest account is enabled and simply add Guest to the two SQL Server groups.

Once the user accounts have been added:

1.      Restart the SQL Server (you can use the SQL Server Configuration Manager to do a Restart)

2.      Log off and back into any accounts that were logged on for these changes to take effect. 

3.      It’s simplest to just restart the computer.

VI. The Computer Name was changed

If you first installed HORTICOPIA Professional before version 5.0.121 and you change the computer name, you’ll have to modify the connection string as described here .  Set the data source to LOCALHOST\HORTPROSQL.
