This support area is dedicated to HORTICOPIA® Professional Version V users experiencing problems connecting to the Microsoft SQL Server 2005

IMPORTANT: Accurate wording of any error message you get from the HORTICOPIA® Professional software is critical. If you are not sure about the error message, go back into HORTICOPIA® Professional and note the error message. Many error messages are similar, so be sure you have the exact message before proceeding.

Have the latest version/build of HORTICOPIA® Professional before continuing with diagnosing the problems. We have made several improvements to the software that help in avoiding and diagnosing any problems you might encounter. You should update your software before proceeding. Horticopia cannot provide technical support if your version is not current. If you are not sure about your version, check for updates on our website as follows:

  • Click the Start menu
  • Select Programs or All Programs
  • Select Horticopia Pro V
  • Select Horticopia Update
Error Message Action to take

An instance of the HORTPROSQL SQL database server could not be found. The SQL Server installation was interrupted or encountered errors.  You should reinstall SQL Server 2005 Express.

Reinstall SQL Server 2005 Express

The database 'HortProData' does not exist....
  1. Make sure the Horticopia Data folder is not compressed.
  2. Make sure that the Netwok Services account has access rights to the Horticopia Data folder
  3. Make sure that you have full read/write access to the Horticopia Data folder. Also, the SQL Server must have full access to this folder.
  4. Follow the SQL Connection Diagnosis

A connection could not be established with the SQL Server at [SQL Server Path]

Be sure to note down the SQL Connection String and the exact error message for any communications with Horticopia Technical Support

The HORTICOPIA database could not be initialized

HORTICOPIA Professional attempted to establish the database but could not do so.
Possible causes are other processes that have opened or attached the database or insufficient access privileges
Under Vista or Windows 7, try running as an Administrator

A problem occurred connecting with the SQL Server at [SQL Server Path]

The database has not been initialized on the primary (Server) computer
  • This message appears only on client workstations.
  • First, get HORTICOPIA Professional up and running on the Server computer and Configure for Network Clients in the HORTICOPIA Control Panel before attempting to do a client workstation execution.
  • See your Networking User Guide for further information

An instance of the HORTPROSQL SQL database server could not be found.  Please refer to the Networking Guide for supplying your own SQL Server connection information.
If you do not  intend to use a different SQL Server connection, then the SQL Server installation was interrupted or encountered errors.  You should reinstall SQL Server 2005 Express.

The Networking User Guide should be consulted for configuring a custom SQL Server connection.  Horticopia Technical Support does not provide support for custom SQL Server connections.
