Working with Microsoft SQL Server

The HORTICOPIA® Professional Version V software is delivered with a Microsoft SQL Server compatible database.  The Professional Version V software includes the database but a Microsoft SQL Server is required.

We have, in the past, provided some SQL configuration guidance. This guidance was based on SQL Server 2005. We have continued to modify our software to be compatible with the latest versions of Microsoft SQL Server. However, we expect our users to rely upon Microsoft resources to help them resolve issues with Microsoft products.

Beginning with Version 5.1.65 (released October 2013), the Microsoft SQL Server LOCALDB module is used for standalone installations. This module is included in the standalone software installation for Professional Version V.  However, a full SQL Server is required for networked installations and, if not already installed on your system, it must be downloaded and installed from Microsoft's website.

The HORTICOPIA® Professional Version V software interfaces with all Microsoft SQL Servers starting with SQL Server 2005. There are a large number of possible Windows® operating system and SQL Server combinations. Windows XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Server 2008, Server 2012 and 32 bit/64 bit variants offer varying degrees of compatibility with Microsoft SQL Server 2005, 2008 and 2012. Microsoft provides numerous tools to help you install, configure, and troubleshoot SQL Server issues.

The Microsoft SQL Server Express editions can be downloaded free of charge from Microsoft's website. Additionally, we recommend that you download the latest version of Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (also no charge) to help you in configuring and troubleshooting the SQL Server.
