Ask a question:

Installing with non-standard security settings

Solution

This knowledgebase article describes installing HORTICOPIA® Education Edition on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 with non-standard security settings

Horticopia has tested the installation of the Education Edition on the above Windows systems with all default security settings without any problems.  However, we have had reports from some users experiencing difficulties with installation and/or running the program. We believe that these problems are due to third party (i.e, not Microsoft) programs that affect installation and other security systems.

The workaround to these issues is as follows:

  1. Download and save the zip file package of the setup from http://www.horticopia.com/edu/Software/EduDemoSetup.zip
  2.  After the download is complete, unzip the setup folder:
    • Open the EduDemoSetup.zip
    • Copy/drag the EduDemoSetup folder (that's inside the zip file) to your desktop
  3. Open the EduDemoSetup folder that's now on your desktop
  4. RIGHT-CLICK on the setup and select "Run as Administrator." You will have to "allow" the setup to make changes. Note that in Windows "Run as Administrator" IS NOT the same thing as being logged on as an Administrator
  5. Once the setup completes, you should have a HORTICOPIA Pro Edu icon on your desktop.
  6. RIGHT-CLICK on this icon and select "Run as Administrator"

After running the Education Edition the first time, it is not required to right-click to run.
